Third and fourth semester language course that offers a thorough review and practice of grammar and an expansion of vocabulary. Focus on enhancing students’ communicative competencies in all four skill areas. Introduction to various cultural topics of the German-speaking countries through the use of literary and non-literary texts, current news, and contemporary film.

The Art and Politics of Propaganda, Harvard College
Large general education class which considers why films proved to be so essential to the Hitler regime and so captivating to German audiences of the Third Reich. It also reflects on the continuing allure of Nazi sights and sounds for contemporary mass culture.

Beginning German, Harvard College (sole instructor)
Year-long introduction to German language and culture with no knowledge of the language. Students develop basic communication competencies with an emphasis on interpersonal communication. Encompasses all four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Instruction is supplemented by literary and non-literary texts, videos, and Internet activities.

– trained to advise sophomores on a wide range of potential concentration choices and help advisees make informed choices on a variety of topics including selecting courses, study abroad programs, research work and utilizing extracurricular time.
– each year I advise between 6-8 sophomores with a variety of academic interests from neurobiology, social studies, and religion to economics, electrical engineering and folklore & mythology.
